Climate Report: Extreme Weather Will Continue to Pound US and Global Economy

by Ariana García Carranza in Agriculture, America, Economy, Environmental, Uncategorized

Throughout the Northern Hemisphere this summer, heat waves have been breaking records and sustaining wildfires of unprecedented fury. These events are providing further proof that a changing climate continues to lead to severe consequences for humanity. At least 85 people were  killed during the recent series of wildfires that struck California; 249 are listed as missing. Nearly 19,000 buildings, most of them homes, have been destroyed. A report released by the White House and created by the US Global Change Research Program states that an increase in climate change could continue to cause wildfires, heat waves and strong hurricanes across the United States. Thousands more could die, food will be scarcer, and the US economy could lose hundreds of billions of dollars – or, in the worst-case scenario, more than 10% of its GDP – by the end of the century! Recent global reports also paint a grim future picture of our progress towards a more sustainable planet.

The Fourth National Climate Assessment, released on November 23, was put together with the help of 1,000 people, including 300 leading scientists, roughly half from outside the US government. The first part of this report, released in November 2017, concluded that there is “no convincing alternative or explanation” for climate change other than human activities, especially greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite this report being assembled by American government agencies, it paints a very clear picture of the global consequences for humanity. The recent emissions gap report by the United Nations states that global greenhouse emissions went up by 1.2% in 2017. Although this might not be considered a large amount, it is a significant amount in the context of keeping global temperatures from rising by more than 2.7°F (1.5°C), an urgency that was recently highlighted by the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report.

Conceived as a forward-thinking business, Primal Group believes in proactively offering sustainable, eco-friendly solutions to the world’s most significant challenges, rather than being forced to adapt to a changing world. Our synergy of Planet, People, Profit clearly distinguishes us as leaders in the agriculture industry. Managing the largest commercial neem plantation in the world through regenerative, innovative and sustainable practices, we are writing the book in sustainable agriculture and battling climate change. We are doing this through the use of organic pesticides that do not contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. With our beauty and personal care brand ViTA, we are actively fighting plastic production – the major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions – through our award-winning 100% OceanBound recycled plastic bottles. By using 100% OceanBound post-consumer recycled resin, which carries a 70% lower carbon footprint than other plastics, ViTA is reusing an otherwise pollutant material and preventing it from entering the oceans.

At Primal Group, we believe in doing good for the world by doing good business and creating real value for our stockholders through innovative and sustainable business solutions that will eventually usher in a new era of corporate and social responsibility.
