For the World Congress of Accountants in 2010, Prince Charles of Wales discusses the necessity in accounting for sustainability.
Prince Charles, who was responsible for setting up the ‘Accounting for Sustainability Project’, highlighted how our planet has reached a point of crisis and how we must determine the economic value of the Earth’s ecosystem to solve the challenges of our time.
“Even with over a billion people with no access to drinkable water and living on less than a dollar a day, we are consuming every year 30% more above the planet’s natural resources than it can renew. Remarkably, we are depleting and destroying this wonderful asset with little idea of the economic consequences.”
